Wedding invitations

SUC53818, originally uploaded by a-chan.

So, we're almost done with getting all the invites done. It was a lot of work, but I finally got the hardest and longest parts done... Like tying all those hemp closures and putting the backs and front squares on.

Now we just need to print out the insides and we'll be all done.... Well, except the return cards and stuff.

Whew! This is hard work, having a wedding.

I want to be like moo.

I want to be like moo., originally uploaded by a-chan.

I discovered the coolest photo service out there. It's called moo. I got the link from flickr. My collage is inspired by moo.com because I haven't had the chance to place an order.

Basically, you choose your pictures from your flickr account. They let you zoom and crop a little and they print and send them to you. It isn't photo paper, but it looks like it's pretty good quality. Check out the flickr group

100 mini-cards for $19.99 doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I've already planned to get a bunch of Richard and me printed so we can put them in the treat bags for our reception.

I was also thinking that it would make great scrapbooking pictures. And I also want to get a set of really random ones for trading. It seems like there's mad moo trading going on all over the world. *squee*

Bottom line, check out moo, you might become as obsessed as me.

grab a loop

grab a loop, originally uploaded by a-chan.

As my last post said, we had our engaged encounter weekend. We're back and better for it... Well, at least a little. We've been together for 5 years, 2 of which were spent living full-time together. Most of the talks were good. We've just experienced and figured all of that stuff out by now.

We think that the weekend is geared towards couples who maybe haven't been together for so long. We had already come to an understanding on finances (duh, we bought a house in October!) and children and that kind of stuff. It was nice to just bring it up and discuss it with each other just so we know for sure that we're on the same track, which we are.

The weekend was tiring! I slept well, but not nearly as long as I wanted. Now I'm sitting up late typing this. I seem to never get enough sleep.

Anyways, to make this connection to knitting: I didn't get enough done. I did less than one section on the log cabin, not worth really taking a picture of.

Saturday night, after mass, we got some 'free time.' I was tired, Richard was tired. We didn't want to just turn in for the night, so we hung out at the snack table for a bit. Then, one of the presenters came by and said that they had found the game closet. So we went... and found grab a loop!! I kinda wanted to play, but we were tired. I can see myself now scouring ebay just to find a copy for myself. It sounds like great fun! like flag football and capture the flag and tag all in one! the box reads: "You loved Twister, now wait till you play grab a loop!" and "the game that really GRABS YOU!" Man, I want that game!

There was also a game called "Oregon Only Trivia" I would have liked to see some of the questions, but we didn't get a chance. It looked older than the grab the loop game. There was a mancala game, but there was no marbles or stones, so that was kinda lame, I like mancala.

Now we're home and back to the planning. I still have tons to do on the invitations, we talked to the caterer tonight, so we're good on that. We need a cake and flowers and centerpieces... and bridesmaid dresses. I learned that my shower has been planned, so that's cool, I just need to send my aunt the list.

I think it's a little funny that we will have been engaged a full year, but we're planning the wedding in 4 months. We're such procrastinators. I decided to do no wedding knitting. I figured that would add to the stress, plus the dress I picked has a jacket that I can wear during the ceremony that will cover my tattoo and then uncover it for the reception and some of the pictures. I'm getting pretty excited about all of this.

Almost done!

You have new Picture Mail!, originally uploaded by a-chan.

Well, maybe. I'm either going to do one or two more layers. it's getting to be pretty big... for a baby blanket. I probably shouldn't have uses some of the yarn that I did. Oh well. After I got enough rows of the color to decide I didn't like it and I didn't feel like ripping it. So, there's a couple of stripes that I'm totally happy with. I will live.

I'm going on a retreat this weekend and I hope to finish this. That is, if Richard remembers to pack my yarn. I was in a hurry this morning trying to get to work 45 minutes early to cover for the receptionist and I ran out of time. I put a pile of yellow and green yarn on a chair in the dinning room and sent an email to Richard (once I got to work) to shove it in my overnight bag. If he forgets, I guess it's okay; I packed my Nintendo DS!

Lack of knitting

Hula-hooping, originally uploaded by a-chan.

I was in such a hurry this morning leaving that house that I forgot my knitting (and my headphones). What am I suppose to do during my lunch hour and breaks... and especially on the bus home? I’m so sad. Last time I tried to read my email on my cell phone on the bus, I got a bit motion sick and had to go to bed when I got home.

So, here I am on my lunch hour with no knitting. If it had been a better day, I would have taken a walk after eating... maybe taking a short trip to knit/purl along the way. At least then I could buy some more Koigu or Sea Silk and some needles and be able to do something. I guess I don’t need anymore Sea Silk (read that as: I can’t afford another skein of it). Koigu, on the other hand, I can afford. I really want to get two different colors that are similar and boy-ish to knit a double-knit hat for my nephew Evan.

I leave you to ponder the pictures above. I can vaguely remember those days of endless energy. I sometimes miss them.

U of O Log Cabin

U of O Log Cabin, originally uploaded by a-chan.

I love this log cabin knitting. It's so much fun. I'm sort of liking my yarn, although I think I might need to take a strand of each color and take it to the store so I can get some more varied colors... especially with the green, almost all of my green is dark and since it's for a baby, I kinda don't want it to be too dark.

A couple more times around and I might be done, or i might just keep going until I'm out of yarn.

Next post, I promise a picture of my green and pink scarf.

I'm already thinking about what my next blanket will be. I really want to do a log cabin for the state fair (and then for me to keep once I'm done). I was thinking of using some Plymouth Fantasy Natural. I really like that yarn. It's the bright green stripe in the picture above. I forgot how much I liked it until I pulled that scrap ball out of the stash. I believe it's my fave cotton yarn.

As for another blanket I'm thinking of doing, a giant granny square

Project Spectrum: April and May

Tulips on the transit mall., originally uploaded by a-chan.

The colors for April and May are green, yellow and pink. While I'm not fond of pink, green is my fave color, while yellow is Richards fave.

The other day I was wondering what I would knit with these colors. I looked down and realized I was knitting with green and pink already. Pretty spiffy. I'm most of the way done with a Rabbit-proof Scarf in Handmaiden Sea Silk - Rose Garden. So, my first goal is to finish that scarf. I've been knitting it off and on for a couple of months now and it needs to be finished! It's a spring time scarf, so I need to wear it soon before it gets too hot!.

My number 2 project is a blanket for my new little cousin in TX. I have bought yarn to start this blanket twice. I had planned to do another pinwheel blanket with green and yellow stripes. (my family is full of duck fans, go figure). The more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to commit to another one of those. I thought about a feather and fan stitch, a thought about a crocheted ripple blanket. Then it hit me: a log cabin blanket. I've been wanting to do one of those for awhile now and I had plenty of green and yellow worsted weight acrylic/cottons.

So, I'm making decent progress on that. I might even finish it before the scarf. If I do finish both of those projects, then my third will be a pair of socks in a green-ish pink.

I have to finish the baby blanket by late June so I can hand deliver it..

Hopefully I'll have some pictures soon, it's raining right now.

Stash-flash

Stash, originally uploaded by a-chan.

This is my stash before we moved last fall. I just found this picture on my old computer. Yes, that's mostly all acrylic. I need to find some use for it. I try to get my niece to make pom-poms every time she comes over to my house. She never does. But then, when there's not time for it, she always really wants to. Someday the two will collide and I'll have hundreds of pom-poms to decorate my house with.

Anyways, I joined the Charmed Knits knit-along, click the button below for the link. I'm so excited to get started on some new Harry Potter knits. I owe my fiancé a hat to match his Hufflepuff scarf I knit him for the last movie premier.

And I think I'll knit myself a Slytherin scarf and hat set. Not that I like Slytherin that much, but green is my color. Maybe my nieces and nephew need some Gryffindor hats. They do need new hats.
